There are many reasons why Atlantic Point stands out from your average backpackers. But one of the main reasons is its prime location. Situated in Greenpoint, one of Cape Town’s trendiest and most entertaining spots, Atlantic Point is a short drive or an even shorter walk to some of the best things to do…most of which are free!
Within walking distance…
Take a walk along the newly developed walkway between Seapoint and the centre of town. Information boards feed you facts about the history and culture of Cape Town, and if you get a little hungry, you can grab a bite to eat at one of the many little delis or restaurants on the strip. We recommend Giovannis for a tasty selection of sandwiches and a delicious roadside coffee.
A little further on is the promenade, which is the perfect place to enjoy the fresh air and to watch the waves crash against the rocks. In the late afternoon, it transforms into a popular outdoor gym and dog park! This is one of Cape Town’s best places to get a little exercise, but if that’s not part of your holiday schedule, there are many cute places along the way to enjoy a bite to eat or a cocktail as you watch the sun go down. The tuna Panini at Café Neo is a must!
No holiday is complete without a little retail therapy! The V & A Waterfront is a shopper’s paradise and is a short 7 minute walk from Atlantic Point backpackers. Here you will find everything from designer labels to South African arts and crafts. But shopping isn’t the only activity available! There are great places to eat, cinemas, and an aquarium. This is also the place to buy tickets to catch the ferry to Robben Island.
Within a 10 minute taxi ride…
Long StreetIf you’re looking for fun vibes and an excuse to stay out all night, visit Long Street, party capital of the Mother City.
Table MountainTable Mountain is the icon of Cape Town and a must for every visitor. A revolving cable car takes you straight up to the top, where spectacular views await you. If you are moderately fit and are feeling energetic, nothing can beat the 2 hour hike up to the top via Platteklip Gorge. There is also a revolving cable car, and both one way and return tickets are available for purchase.
Signal HillSignal Hill which looks over the whole of Seapoint, Greenpoint and the harbour area, is a scenic place to stop and take photos. The Noon Gun is also in close proximity.
Lions HeadLions Head is a peaceful place to watch the sun go down, and is especially romantic when it’s full moon. The walk up to the top takes about an hour, after which you can sit on the grass and watch the moon rise as the sun sets.
Camps BayCamps Bay is a must, especially in summer, for delicious cocktails, seafood and people watching! It is the place to be and to be seen. The beaches are beautiful and the vibe can be enjoyed until the early hours of the morning at the various seaside restaurants and clubs.
